How to eat to balance your hormones

If you read last week's email or you've listened to my hormone balance journey podcast episode, you know my journey to hormone balance has been quite the- umm, adventure. But not the fun kind of adventure where you don't really know where you're going and you just want to enjoy the journey. I had a destination I wanted to get to (feeling energized, not having crazy PMS, getting rid of my forever cystic acne, regular cycles, stable weight, balanced mood- it was a tall order, I know) but I had zero idea how to get there, and not a ton of support.

It took several practitioners and a lot of trial and error over the years to learn that my lifestyle, especially the foods I was eating (mostly how I was eating them) was KEY to balancing my hormones- and no, I didn't need to restrict anything, ditch carbs or go on a crazy meal plan to do it. Been there, tried that- and it didn't last. Surprised?

When I connected with Dr. Heather Rhodes earlier this year, I was SO inspired by how simple, practical and actionable her nutrition strategy for hormone balance is- and even better, it WORKS.

She doesn't recommend going keto or cutting out all carbs.

She doesn't recommend restricting what you eat during the week and just having cheat days.

She doesn't recommend dieting- at all. She's about learning how to balance your hormones, EVERY day, in simple ways, through nourishing your body WELL.

So when she suggested we collaborate to create a cookbook and masterclass to help all of you live with Happier Hormones, I was MORE than on board. I started creating recipes that week.

And here's the COOLEST part: I have NEVER felt better.

I already knew the basic how-tos to keep my blood sugar balanced and mostly keep my PCOS symptoms at bay (though she did personally help me hone on on some things that weren't working, in the spring) but I hadn't truly dove into seed cycling, or making sure I was eating foods that naturally help my body to detox extra estrogen for less PMS.

Ladies.

My period has SNUCK UP on me three months in a row. If you know, you know.

My mind was both blown away- and I wasn't surprised. Heather's strategies WORK. Simple shifts make a HUGE difference.

And it CAN be delicious, family-friendly and EASY to eat for hormone balance.

It's Day 5 of Smoothie Week! I drink a LOT of smoothies, and if there is any smoothie I make more than any others, it's this peanut butter and 'jelly' protein smoothie! It's not only delicious- this balance of sweet and protein and healthy fats always keeps me full and energized for HOURS- exactly what I need for my busy mama life. Scroll down for the recipe- feel free to replace the peanut butter with cashew butter or sunbutter. PB&J Protein Smoothie : 1/2 cup (heaping) frozen mixed berries...

It's Day 4 of Smoothie Week! Today's recipe features another potentially unexpected ingredient... but don't knock it til you try it! The combination of strawberries + dates + cottage cheese (yes, cottage cheese!) tastes like you are drinking strawberry cheesecake- it's my latest obsession! Of course, you can always replace the cottage cheese with vanilla protein powder-- but it's not the same, trust me! I love cottage cheese as one of my favorite inexpensive protein powder-free ways to get in...

It's Day 3 of Smoothie Week! Today I'm featuring a smoothie with one of my favorite warm-weather fruits- peaches- and TWO veggies-- spinach and zucchini (yes, zucchini!). I love to freeze zucchini that might be wilting a little in the fridge- it makes your smoothie creamy (without adding a whole banana) and adds a fiber and nutrient boost! I call this one Peaches n' Greens (you know, like Peaches and Cream... you get the gist 😉). Peaches n’ Greens: 3/4 cup frozen peaches 1/2 cup frozen...
